Volunteers are a very important part of Special Care. More than 1400 high school students, college students, and community members volunteer at Special Care each year, and the majority of our volunteers volunteer on a bi-weekly or monthly basis. Young people who volunteer at Special Care develop friendships with children and youth with special needs, | seeing them with new eyes. Through our volunteer programs, young people learn to recognize individuals, not disabilities.
Adult volunteers from local colleges and corporations such as Dell also have a positive influence on children at Special Care and on younger volunteers. There are many ways Special Care works toward changing social attitudes and opportunities for people living with disabilities. Special Care volunteers are one of our most important resources in this effort.
Special Care invites volunteers to visit Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. through 12:30 p.m. and then from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. No appointments are necessary, except for large groups. Opportunities are on a first come first serve basis for individuals.
